Ghasts are elite Croiz Special Ops units used for sabotage and high-profile kidnappings and assassinations, and are deployed when a quick solution is needed. The Ghasts doctrine was first created when the invasion of Salchissa met heavy resistance, and the usual "wave" of men the Crescanians had used before would claim far too many lives. Although the Ghasts were far less efficient than they are to date, this was considered a major revolution in Confederate tactics and strategy. The Ghasts began hacking away at the Salchissan resistance infrastructure through night operations including sabotage and assassination, and soon even the mighty Urokotoro Empire fell, leading to the Confederacy adopting the Black Dagger assassin order.

Ghasts always operate in groups of 10 including a sergeant, and there is a clear and strict line of command and succession, as it is with most Crescanian units. And like all Croiz units, the sergeant has complete power over his or her squad, and the soldiers follow the sergeant's orders without question, as all Croiz soldiers are trained to do. This makes the Ghast sergeant fully responsible for the squad following military regulations.

Like the Black Daggers, and unlike most other Crescanian troops, Ghasts do not use the plasma weaponry regular marines use, since they are based on the propulsion energy produced by Nogava crystals and are thus impossible to silence. Instead, Ghasts use regular ballistic weapons with gunpowder and lead bullets, their favored weapon being the F31 Bullpup. These kind of weapons are easy to silence and can kill much faster, but are far less effective against armor.
