The Black Daggers is an ancient order of assassins created thousands of years ago on Salchissa, long before the Crescanian annexation. It is in fact the oldest order of any kind that has ever been used by the Confederacy and is still in existence. The order consists solely of Salchissans who were shown to have an unusually slim and agile body at birth, and were then taken in by the order to train them to become assassins. Black Daggers are not allowed to have contact with their original families, or even know who they were, so that they would have no ties to the world outside the order. This is most often accepted by the parents, as it is considered a great honor to be part of the order. They train from reaching their sixth birthday and are fully accepted as a Black Dagger on their 20th. They are then declared ready to serve their nation. That nation was originally the Salchissan Urokotoro Empire, but today the Daggers are happy to serve the Crescanian Confederacy and the Gu'ush, something most Salchissans are eager to do. Black Daggers are nowadays only sent to places with little or no civilization or dense population, or when there is no option, as the order works only for the Crescanian government, and as such, if it were to be discovered that it was a Black Dagger who did the deed, there would be no doubt that it was the Crescanian government whom were behind it. Otherwise, the contract is most often given to the much less known Nomads.
The order promotes trust and companionship among its members, and has been called the "big family" since every Black Dagger consider the order and its members as no less than their fellow family members, even though most only know a few in the order personally. One factor that aids in these relations is the order banning masks inside Black Dagger sanctuaries, as it belongs to Salchissan culture to hide your face from everyone but the closest friends and family. But outside the sanctuaries they wear identical uniforms both as a symbol of equality and so that no one can recognize any specific member.
Black Daggers are both respected and feared by the public, as they are known to be well-behaved and polite to those who are friendly to them, but can kill just about anyone in seconds with just about anything they can get their hands on, be it a sword, a gun or a table spoon.
