An HDC Battlegroup is a multinational fleet used by the Human Defence Coalition, made up of warships and army divisions of the member-states. The Battlegroups are controlled by the HDC Council of Directors, and are commanded by officers from the Kurgan, Commonwealth, New Covenant and Bridgend militaries. The individual Battlegroups are each assigned a sector of space to be responsible for, and are named after the largest colony in that sector. There are also Battlegroups that are given certain specializations and roles, such as the Amphibous Battlegroup, which focuses on planetary assault operations; the Joint Special Operations Battlegroup, which handles Coalition special operations; and the Space Interdiction Battlegroup, which focuses on raids and economic warfare, to name a few examples.

The HDC Battlegroups gives the Coalition the ability to rapidly and effectively respond to threats and incursions, and during times of interstellar war, act as both the first line of defence and the first means of attack.
