Dark Watch
Dark watch is a new Organization founded by the New Covenant military. It was designed as direct competition to the Crusader Program, but meant to be more easily accessed by the military, unlike the Independent Crusaders which are able to choose their own engagements and even have war outside of New Covenant jurisdiction., the
With this in mind the military began the program of making a highly trained Corps of elite troops taken from all branches of the Military from those with exceptional skill. The goal in mind was to have power armor using troops that would have access to more easily manufactured armor that brought far more protection than the standard infantry, so over time the developed numerous types of power armor, many of which became civilian accessible over time as they were quickly outdated, until the modern ones that define the Dark Watch today were developed.
Overall the primary purpose of the Dark Watch is to be easily accessible heavy Infantry, that can perform intense high risk missions, performing such that would only be possible with the armor they wore. This has brought on conflicts with other special operation forces, most notably Storm and Shock troopers, who boast just as high training, but only lack power armor. Most of these conflicts are unfounded as each is still needed for the tasks they need to perform where heavier troops would not be fast enough, or where lighter troops could not last as long.
In the end the Dark Watch is a force to be reckoned with, it is regarded as a rather shady organization, and mostly secretive with its developments but they get the job done, much to the disdain or scoffs of true Crusaders, and some times mild admiration.
History
The Dark Watch is the brain child of General Black, a former Shock Trooper who had fought in past wars along side Crusaders. After the separation event caused by the warp, General Black had been working with the Technologis to develop power armor that could be easily produced for a specialist force meant to act as a place holder where Crusaders could not be requisitioned. It is unsure if this was formed to be a rivalry to the Crusaders or simply a good idea, as the General's past with Crusaders was not discussed much, and so the reason for it is conflicting as he had been known to say both good and bad things about Crusaders.
After its formation, tensions with Crusaders sprung up, but were quickly quelled as the Dark Watch became fully formed and began proving its worth. The War with Caesar's forces was their proving ground, and they proved their worth in many roles, from deep strikes into Enemy territory, to Hit Squads targeting enemy generals and other HVTs. Even Justinian the emperor came to recognize their worth in battle, however he still held them with suspicion.
The reputation of the group, though well acclaimed in battle especially for their defense during mass evacuations supporting the guardsmen troops, had a darker side. Though no hard facts exists, it is hypothesized that they perform questionable experiments and use unapproved techniques in research in development, and have come under scrutiny of the of some in the Technologis while others within the Technologis support them. However no Heresy has come to light and so they continue to operate as military organization.
Current Policies
The Dark Watch has become more politically active as it has grown in influence, and has gained a seat on the Advisory Council for the Emperor. They have also made it known in becoming direct competition for Crusaders, providing specialist and heavy support for ground support, with their significantly cheaper Power Armored Units. They also tend to be enforcers for the Military, heading campaigns aimed at nullifying Sapient Xenos on planets the fleets mine for Resources, using combat as a training ground for tech they develop with the assistance of the Technologis.
Not much is known about them, though it may be seen that they have associated them selves with the Assassins Temple, leading to much speculation into motives and dealing the Dark Watch has, though their effectiveness is not denied. Knowledge currently unknown, and never to be known by the rest of the New Covenant, is they have no quarrel with using Xenos tech, if it gives them advantage, both in terms of competition with the Crusaders and against the enemies of the New Covenant.
