The Doctor (real name unknown) was born on Kurgan 58 years ago, to a mother due to giving birth to him and an alcoholic father who took little care in raising him in a relatively obscure city. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, he desired to become a doctor; to prevent others from suffering the same fate as his mother. He studied hard in this goal, spending most of his teenagehood life preparing to become a doctor even before he had entered university. Upon graduating from university, he was immediately accepted into an extremely prestigious medical institution in one of Kurgan's major cities due to his excellent grades.
But this prestige did not last long, as in but a few years he had received word that his father was in critical condition; having been involved in a horrific drunk driving incident in which he was at fault. He was due to operate on another critical patient in but a few minutes as he had gotten the message. The institution gave him an ultimatum as he prepared to leave and abandon the patient; either stay and operate on the patient, or leave to operate on his father and get fired. Naturally, the Doctor had chosen his father over his job; as despite the fact that the Doctor's father had shown him little compassion after his mother's death, he was still his father.
When he got to where his father was hospitalised, in a relatively poor standard medical facility, he discovered that his father's condition had worsened even further; and that the facility's doctors had already given up hope. Undeterred, the Doctor entered the ER; brandishing all his advanced medical tools and experience as he operated on his father alone. Yet even with his technology, even with his skill and experience; there was nothing he could do. He watched, hopelessly attempting to revive his father, as the last blood relative he had remaining passed away before his eyes; a testament to his perceived failure as a doctor to accomplish even saving his own father.
Soon after, he had received a message from the institution where he had worked at along with the letter of termination; the patient he had abandoned died as well, from a procedure the Doctor knew he could accomplish. Distraught beyond words, and blacklisted from all major hospitals in the Kurgan Union, the Doctor enlisted in the Kurgan Navy as a medic; the sole way he could still go on living without resorting to either poverty or suicide. He served as part of an exploratory crew, spending long voyages across the cosmos in search of habitable worlds. But even thousands of lightyears away from Kurgan, his reputation had still followed him; and so the crew greatly avoided associating with him when possible.
One day, the ship ran into an alien planet teeming with life; a lush green planet which scanners showed to be perfect for habitation. Upon landing, though, it was discovered that the planet held an indigenous sentient species; albiet one at a tribal level. The crew was attacked almost immediately upon landing, getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of natives attacked and getting either killed or taken prisoner. The Doctor himself was one of the prisoners, getting dragged by his feet along with his comrades to the stage of a giant sacrificial arena.
As he watched his comrades get killed one by one, he began preparing himself for his long-awaited death; remembering all which he had experienced so far in his mind hile gazing upon the mindless violence before him, and all those who he had failed to save. As the tribesmen were about to execute him, trailing a serrated blade across the front of his neck, he suddenly felt the entire arena shake with extreme intensity; throwing the tribesmen off balance. But this was not a naturrally occurring earthquake, nor was it Kurgan reinforcements arriving as the Doctor had hoped.
It was a portal being opened, a massive green and yellow portal that seemed to open up atop a massive staircase in the arena. The tribesmen, awed at the sight before them, seemingly realized what it meant; dragging the Doctor up the staircase as they chanted religious phrases in their alien dialect. They then threw the bewildered Doctor inside the portal, into a new world far more peculiar than anything he had ever seen before.
It was a massive floating palace atop a mountain of glowing green stone, similar in architecture to the arena had just left; but far more magnificent. The entire structure was gilded with what looked like platinum, and all manners of perfect gems were studded in it's incredibly large doors and arches. The Doctor wandered around, bewildered by the sight before him, until he bumped into a massive wall that had appeared before him and fell to the floor.
But looking up, the Doctor realized that this was not a wall; it was a massive humanoid being similar in shape to the aliens, yet different in many ways. His imposing appearance was complimented by the equally intimidating and golden regalia which he adorned; a golden/jade crown and an ivory white solid neck choker with white and golden robes that wrapped around his entire massive body. The being bent down to the Doctor, taking in the Kurgan's looks with his three eyes showing what seemed to be amusement.
The being introduced itself as Eshmun, the Healing Deity of the Riach people and it's sole guide; as every other deity had perished from the never ending war of the Riach tribes giving them no time to advance their society nor worship any deities other than Eshmun; as praying for recovery among the Riach was high due to the many wounds they suffered in battle. The Doctor had been flung into the Eshmun's Domain, at Eshmun's interest in seeing an alien so well versed with medical knowledge; yet so capable of learning so much more about the art of healing.
And so the Doctor became Eshmun's understudy in his palace/library, learning all there was to know about healing both physically and spiritually. The knowledge in the Library of Eshmun was near-infinite, detailing the cures and treatments for every past, present, and future ailment to ever plague the universe. And though the Doctor could not possibly learn all of it, Eshmun forced all the medical knowledge he could into the Doctor's human mind. Soon, however, the Doctor began too engrossed in absorbing all the knowledge he could; even beginning to terrify Eshmun with the depths of knowledge, often forbidden knowledge, which the Doctor sought.
The Doctor was summoned by Eshmun, to reprimand him for his unhealthy obsession, but the Kurgan did not take well to the reprimand; revealing his true intentions in engaging in an argument with Eshmun regarding the morality of medicine itself. As the Doctor now knew that every disease was curable, every person could become immortal, if Eshmun's knowledge were to become commonplace. Yet if nobody would die, if everybody were to become immortal, it would undoubtedly lead to nothing but eternal suffering and unending war. Eshmun was convinced that a balance could be reached, that imparting his knowledge to the greater universe would result in a utopia; but he had trained his pupil too well.
The two engaged in an argument, an unending debate, which lasted five continuous years without rest. Eshmun was incredibly wise, being a divine being. But he had not experienced the Doctor's hardship, he was not aware of the true nature of the greater universe. Eventually, the argument ended with Eshmun's defeat; and the immortal being deliberately ceased his own existence with the apparent realization of his error. The Domain of Eshmun quickly began collapsing with the death of its deity, all the knowledge within it disappearing alongside.
The Doctor, satisfied that he was in the right, awaited his own end in the collapsing Domain. But suddenly, a being appeared before him; the Demon King in ethereal form. He transported the Doctor out of the Domain to have a conversation lasting en entire month with him regarding the truths he had discovered; life in this universe could not reach a balance. It was either immortality and unending warfare, or pestilence and unending tragedy. The Doctor's knowledge may have been vast, his age and experience within the Domain of Eshmun making him wise beyond that of a normal man. But even he fell to the Demon King's persuasion, as his fractured and damaged mind from both his life on Kurgan and the Library's knowledge was not capable of resisting the Demon King's logic.
And so he agreed to the Demon King's plan for a 'relocation' of life in joining Requiem and becoming an Adept, to another plane similar to the Domain of Eshmun which would do away with both war and pestilence. Though much evil would have to be done, and much tragedy would have to be wrought; there could be nothing to stand in the way of this necessary relocation: The necessary death of all sentient beings in the material universe.
