Psykers are Unique to the New Covenant and Kurgan people, though the New Covenant has the most in regards to other Empires.

Description A psyker is defined as someone with a connection to the Warp and this connection is stronger than the connection in the average person, and it manifests itself in certain parts of the brain of those with the psyker genes are able to call upon the powers of the warp. These manifest themselves in abilities such as Telepathy, Telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and other strange attributes.

It is unknown if the Telepaths of the CommonWealth are psykers, though it seems highly likely they are.

Abilities Psykers come in many forms and for the most part are highly regulated due to the dangers they pose. The psykers that are discovered are taken and trained in the Church, though not all people with gifts have it to a severity that requires Church action as in the case of Techno-Savants and anyone with the Techno-Gift.

Types of psyker are as follows:

  • Astropaths-Telepathic psykers used for FTL Communications across astronomical distances, these are among the most powerful of Telepaths, they are also highly common.
  • Casters-Telepaths who can call upon the Energies of the Warp into reality, such as summoning lightning or ripping the life force from someone, and these casters are usually offensive.
  • Support Psykers- These psykers call upon great mental fortitude and can bolster men of the army with psychic inspiration, and can weave spells from the warp for defensive purposes.
  • Technopaths-Psykers whose abilities do not lay upon calling energies of the warp, but have a gift given by the Warp for understanding and working with technology, and to some extents being able to manipulate technology with their mind.
  • Mind Breakers-Psykers whose telepathic abilities excell in warping the perceptions of people they target, such as causing hallucinations or inducing insanity, or even in some powerful though forbidden practices, bringing an enemies nightmares into reality.

Psykers never come in one flavor and may have a plethora of disciplines, though Technopaths are the exception in this as they do not have any other psyker traits. So this may separate them from normal psykers, as Technopaths are not capable of other Psyker abilities, and Psykers are not capable of naturally understanding technology like Technopaths.

Paladins

Paladins are Crusaders who are psykers as well, and they are specially selected and go through extreme training to filter those out who are not of uncompromisable minds. Only the strongest make it through the training, and they come out as Soldiers who are ready to slay Demons and combat the unknown. They are immune to possession of any kind in regards to their mind, due tp their extreme mental fortitude. However they are not trained like Crusader Battle Priests, and so are not capable of more exotic spells, as they typicaly use their psyker powers to fuel their Force weapons and other Psychic weapons, as well as having passive defenses such as the shroud which surrounds all Paladins like a mist that makes them difficult to target with ranged weaponry, and the shroud itself is also known to absorb damage as well.

Paladins have their own chapter and are not found in any other Chapter unless they are deployed with another chapter. They excel at fighting demons and other unnatural forces, but their extreme power makes them quite capable of fighting other forces as well.

Priests

All Priests are psykers, and usually ordained as such, though their are non-Priest psykers, Priests however are more potent as their faith is stronger which helps them tangle with the danger of the Warp that using their power presents. Most if not all Religious leaders are psykers in the New Covenant. On outer worlds Priests may not be psykers, but in most major places such as fully established colonies, they will be psykers.
